Amazon warns 300 million users of holiday cyber-scam surge
Amazon has issued a security alert to more than 300 million customers globally, urging vigilance against a wave of scams and cyber-attacks timed for the holiday shopping rush.
According to its advisory, common tactics to watch out for include: fraudulent delivery- or account-issue messages, phishing links, impersonation via social-media adverts, and unsolicited phone calls posing as customer-service or tech-support.
To stay protected, Amazon recommends:
Always use the official Amazon website or mobile app for account access or customer service.
Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) or use passkeys instead of regular passwords.
Avoid clicking on suspicious links, third-party adverts, or messages claiming to be from Amazon but that seem off.
Stay safe out there — scammers ramp up activity when big sales hit.
