Farmers’ protest in London: Everything you need to know about the event
Today, farmers are staging a tractor protest through London’s streets. The demonstration begins at around 09:30 am, with tractors forming a slow-moving convoy heading into central London while supporters on foot gather in Whitehall.
The protest is a response to proposed changes in inheritance tax, which would impose a 20 % tax on inherited agricultural assets worth over £1 million starting April 2026. Many family-run farms fear this could force them to sell land to meet tax bills — farmers are demanding “fairness and a future.”
The march comes shortly after a similar procession on Monday (24 November) in Ipswich — more than 100 tractors travelled along the A14 to Felixstowe.
Supporters of the protest claim the proposed tax will hit rural livelihoods hard, at a time when farmers are already under pressure from supermarket pricing practices and climate-driven unpredictability.
