MURIC slams “Christian-genocide” claims — warns they risk destabilising Nigeria
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned recent assertions by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that violence in Nigeria amounts to an organised “genocide” against Christians, calling such claims inflammatory and divisive.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, MURIC argued that framing insecurity as a religious genocide threatens to deepen sectarian tensions and could fuel extremism across the country.
MURIC cautioned that recently-shared petitions advocating foreign military intervention — in response to those “genocide” claims — risked undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty and further polarising communities.
The organisation urged Nigerians to reject sectarian narratives, prioritise unity and peace, and called on leaders, including Bola Tinubu, to steer the nation with wisdom in these sensitive times.
