Surviving London on a Budget: What Nigerian Migrants Should Know 💷🇬🇧
A lot of newcomers get shocked when they compare cost of living in Nigeria vs London 😭. Even the £38k average salary isn’t enough for a comfortable life if you don’t plan wisely.
Typical Monthly Expenses in London 📊
Here’s a rough guide:
Rent (shared house): £550–£900
Travel: £120–£200
Food: £120–£200
Bills & mobile: £60–£120
Many migrants manage on £700–£1,000 a month by making smart decisions — so yes, it’s possible, but you need a plan.
Tips That Actually Work 🌱
Live in Zones 3–6 rather than central London
Cook at home instead of relying on takeaways
Share accommodation
Buy travelcards or use caps to save money on transport
Seek free or discounted community services
Little habits go a long way, especially when you’re still finding your feet 🥘🚆.

I agree with the point about shared accommodation 💯. If not for that option, a lot of us for don run back to Naija 😂. Sharing really cuts rent, and you can even get bills included if you search well. For groceries, buying from African stores every week will finish your money fast — mix it with Aldi, Lidl and street markets. That combo saved me plenty £££ 🛒🌽.
London has some amazing Nigerian restaurants! If you’re craving jollof rice or pounded yam, spots like Enish are must-visit! 🎉🍲
