Bola Tinubu has proclaimed a nationwide security emergency as Nigeria reels from a surge of kidnappings and bandit attacks. 

Under the new directives:

The Nigeria Police Force will recruit an additional 20,000 officers — bringing in new personnel and using National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps for their training. 

Officers previously assigned to VIP protection duties will be withdrawn, retrained, and redeployed to high-risk zones across the country. 

The Department of State Services (DSS) has been directed to deploy forest guards and expand recruitment to flush out bandits and terrorists hiding in forested areas. 

The government has called on all Nigerians to assist in securing the nation — urging community vigilance and cooperation as security forces ramp up operations.
