Tractors descend on London for Budget protest despite police ban
Farmers ignored a police ban to roll into central London on Budget Day, driving a convoy of tractors into Westminster in a protest against the planned Family Farm Tax.
The protest — largely a show of defiance — saw dozens of tractors parading down the M4, entering central London and parking near Parliament before drifting toward Trafalgar Square.
Authorities from Metropolitan Police intervened, citing a ban on agricultural vehicles for the demonstration. “Several arrests” were made after some protest‑goers breached police conditions.
Farmers say the tax — which threatens to impose inheritance tax on farms and agricultural businesses valued over £1 million — will devastate family‑run farms and rural livelihoods if implemented.
