Anyone who enjoys cooking at home will be pleased with how easy it is to find Nigerian ingredients in Luton. The town has several African and Caribbean supermarkets that sell yam, garri, egusi, dried fish, palm oil, plantain, okra, Nigerian spices, and everything you need to recreate proper Naija dishes. These shops are essential for the Nigerian diaspora in Luton, especially for families who prefer home-made soups like egusi, ogbono, edikaikong and efo riro.

The shop owners are often warm and helpful, and you’ll always see fellow Nigerians in Luton sharing tips on the best days to buy fresh stock or where to get the cheapest ingredients. Because these stores cater directly to African tastes, you won’t struggle to keep your kitchen stocked.

Whether you’re making Sunday stew, frying puff-puff, or preparing smoky jollof for guests, you’ll find everything you need locally.

Very accurate. Luton really makes life easier for anyone who loves to cook Nigerian food. I always stock up on yam, garri and crayfish from those African stores. Prices vary, so it helps when people share which shop has the freshest stock each week. Cooking at home has saved my budget many times. Nothing like opening your cupboard and seeing egusi ready to go.

Yes yes yes! The African stores here are a lifesaver. I cook a lot, so it’s reassuring to know I can find plantain, okra and palm oil without travelling far. One shop in particular has the best fresh peppers. If you’re new, don’t be shy to ask the staff for recommendations. They always guide you like family.

@bedfordqueen Finding Nigerian ingredients in Luton used to stress me when I moved here, but these African shops really came through. I bought palm oil, dried fish and egusi last week — prices were fair too. Their yam is even fresher than the one I used to buy in London 😂. If you know the best shop for bulk garri, let me know.

These African shops honestly save lives. Last week I found fresh plantain, crayfish and even good-quality palm oil. I felt like hugging the shop owner 😅. As long as I can buy egusi, ogbono and yam without stress, I’m content. If anybody knows where they sell soft beans for akara, please share oo.

Honestly, Luton is underrated when it comes to African groceries. I’ve never struggled to find palm oil, yam, garri or even stockfish. One shop owner even recommended the best day for fresh peppers 😂. These stores make it easy to cook real Nigerian meals without travelling far.
