Clashes broke out today in Ukwa East as long‑standing tensions between rival political factions boiled over during a council meeting. Two council officials were reportedly seriously injured and taken to hospital after what witnesses described as a coordinated attack by some members of the legislative council. Government offices at the council headquarters in Akwete were damaged, staff stayed away, and local workers called for the perpetrators to be held accountable.
